How long does SEO take?

SEO changes can take time to affect search, and some bring no clear change. There is no single deadline for more rankings or enquiries.

Google says changes can take hours to several months to appear in search results. It suggests allowing a few weeks before judging their effect. That is guidance about changes, not a promise about your sales. See the Google SEO starter guide.

Separate tasks from results

A page can be written and published on an agreed date. The search position of that page is not something an agency controls.

Ask for both a work plan and a report. You should be able to see what was agreed, what is complete and what is waiting for input.

Before the work begins, ask these questions:

• Which pages are the first priority?
• Is the site accessible to search engines?
• What business facts or access do you need from me?

These questions make the plan easier to assess. They also help avoid delays caused by missing information or unclear roles.

Judge whether the plan still fits

More work is not always the answer. Check that the pages being improved still match the services you want to sell. A clear offer and enquiry route matter as well as being found.

Use your monthly review to discuss completed work and next priorities. If your needs change, agree any change in scope and price first.
